Sadly, I have never seen a collection of glass sculptures, nor have been so much intrigued to visit a museum for one. I like staring at sculptures, but I like them in stone or metal or wood. Glass intimidates me. It’s fragile, and it seems so sophisticated for a down-to-earth girl like me. I was already in college when I became aware of a renowned Filipino glass sculptor, Ramon Orlina — not only because I was in a Fine Arts class, but because his daughter was my classmate also!
Don’t get me wrong, though. Glass is a beautiful medium of art, and I admire the artists who use it as their medium. I just feel that when I stare at them I have to move a few feet away to make sure I don’t break them. Haha! That’s probably why I’m more comfortable looking at bronze or wood sculptures.
So, a word of caution, you’re not going to see any glass sculptures when you scroll down, but I’m sure you’re going to see a lot of glass-inspired things. Here’s my take on this week’s theme.
Who wouldn’t find happiness in seeing a mountainous Hong Kong while riding a glass-bottom cable car? I loved how I can just look down and see the trees in the mountains and people catching fish!
These were three drinks from different cities all served in glasses! The one on the left was Java coffee from the famous Cafe Batavia in Kota Tua, Jakarta. The middle was a Gin Sling from The Phoenix Hotel in Yogyakarta. The one on the right is a pearl milk tea in one of the hawker centers in Singapore.
Lastly, here’s a shot of the dome in Boldt Castle in Alexandria Bay, New York. The stained glass dome was indeed lovely!
