If your time wasn’t as limited as ours, I would discourage you to take the evening ferry from Cebu to Bohol. The sea was turbulent, and we felt it inside the ferry. My insides were screaming, and I wanted to just release the tension building up inside my body. It didn’t help that I heard people puking around. Crap. That was my worst ferry ride ever.
The only solution was for me to munch on chocolate bars, and to eat crackers. Good thing we brought some. Otherwise, I would have been in terrible shape by the time we arrive in Tagbilaran.
We were met by Kuya Roger, whom we contacted while we were in Cebu city. As we complained how bad the ferry ride was, Kuya Roger told us that the Ocean Jet ferry, though bigger than Weesam’s, was even more dizzying. Lucky us, I thought. He brought us to our hotel, Alona 42 Resort, in Panglao. The ride took about 45 minutes.
JR, the hotel staff waiting for us, was friendly and accommodating. He gave us our welcome drinks as he prepared our rooms for the night. As the property was small, I didn’t expect too much. However, as I entered the room, I was pleasantly surprised.
The room looked inviting and warm. It was clean and quaint. I also loved the Filipino touch in its decoration. I checked the bathroom – it was also clean. Wow. This is one of the best value for money hotels I’ve stayed in. 🙂
Sure, the resort isn’t a beach-front property, but I didn’t mind the five-minute walk to the sea. It is also away from the noise that the bars and restaurants created on the other street.
What made it more special was that the staff were really friendly. From the time I made reservations, I was confident that I would have a pleasant stay here. The reservation system was efficient, a far cry from that of Coco Grove’s.
In the morning, the staff prepared our breakfast – it took quite a long time but the meal was big and it was also tasty.
Upon coming back after our Bohol countryside tour, we were also treated very well by Ate Inday and Cristina. Ate Inday prepared coffee on our request, . We sipped our coffee at the dining area, while watching the sun set behind the buildings. Soon, others guests began to arrive.
In the evening, we decided to stay put in the resort. However, given the limited choices of food in the resort, we opted to have food delivered to us (an option suggested by the staff), which we really appreciated. It showed how focused they were in the welfare of their customers and not just in sales. 🙂
