This Little Family Tradition
A few years back, we started a little family tradition of travelling together every year. It was 2008 when it all began — my mom and I went to Kuala Lumpur and Singapore with four other ladies. In 2009, our family (this time including my father and my brother) saw the ornate temples and palaces in Bangkok, the ancient ruins of Angkor, the striking capital of Phnom Penh and the historic Saigon. 2010 marked my first trip out of Asia on to the United States, followed by our Borneo escapade to Kota Kinabalu and Brunei. Last year, it was time for Beijing.
2012 is supposedly for the Indian sub-continent, but due to (1) AirAsia’s cancellation of flights to New Delhi and (2) some money constraints, we had little choice but to change our destination somewhere closer to home.
I would have wanted to explore Laos or cruise the Halong Bay near Hanoi, though looking at the weather for the month of May dampened my spirits in going — May appeared to be the start of the monsoon season. Indonesia would be a better choice, we thought, and so we decided to visit the bustling capital of Jakarta, the world-famous Yogyakarta, and the cosmopolitan city of Singapore.
The next few posts will feature the week we travelled in Java and Singapore. Hope you enjoy reading!
